For like the first time in a loooong time, I finally really tried on something.
The planet was all painted, as was the nebula and stars and letterbox. Pretty much every thing was by hand, rather than overlaying textures like everyone else does.
I'm almost super proud of this at the moment, but I'm sure that'll change in a day or two
EDIT: Made the planet not suck as much, gave it a rocket ship too. You should tell me if you don't like the ship in there, I'm confused as to what I prefer more
EDIT (2?):Took out the rocket. T'was lame
It deserves to be seen daily!
Scribbles can and will be the answer to all of your troubles. First, I filled a huge circular selection with a dark grey, then started painting the outline of the land.
Then I'd simply paint in the basic land, blah de blah. Then I just made a whole bunch of rivers and streams with the dark grey that is my planet's base/ a lighter variant of it.
And from there I got a bunch of randomness by using the dual brush feature with some scattered brushes, then blended it all together by scribbling.
Scribble to your heart's content. Sometimes the clone stamp too can be your friend too. So can noise, but it's a rarity.
oh, I forgot to mention I painted the planet in grayscale first, and then just went over it on a new layer set to color with oranges and blues and green. Wahla! Corner of a planet. I know most of that isn't what you wanted to hear, but my main advice is to learn how to scribble. ; D
